Principal's Message Term 3 Week 10 2024
Dear Parents,
We come to the close of another jam-packed term. The last few weeks have been challenging as several staff deal with losing a loved one and requiring time off. Barbara Rundel Dobson has flown to be with her family in Germany as her father died suddenly. Please keep Barbara and her family in your prayers.
- Jason Smith is currently working with the Year 6 team.
- Kathleen Maguire is currently working with the Year 4 team.
- Paris Morris will be working with various primary grades in Term 4.
- Monica Cougar will be teaching K Crimson in Term 4.
We will be farewelling the following staff at the end of the year:
- Geoff Howarth, as his wife has been posted overseas. This is a wonderful opportunity for the family.
- Emma Ryan is heading to Brisbane with the family, to be closer to extended family.
Class Groups 2025 Concerns
Much care and deliberation occurs when forming our class groups.Teachers are highly professional and have the main responsibility for placing their current students in the most appropriate class for next year. For the first two weeks of next term, the teachers will be observing friendships to assist with class groupings. Children will be asked to identify five learning friends. Every endeavour is made to link a child with a friendin their class, however, the staff will also consider the best learning placement. Over the holidays please chat with your child so they know who they may like to nominate.
When forming class groups we aim for an equal spread of both positive and challenging characteristics. Every care will be taken to ensure that your child is placed in the best situation to enhance learning and social development.
Confidential concerns should be brought to my attention in writing, by Friday 25 October, even if you have raised concerns in previous years. Please email directly to carmel.maguire@cg.catholic.edu.au. General concerns should be raised with your child's teacher. As Principal, I will make the final decision on all class placements. Late requests are very difficult to consider once groups are finalised.
A teacher's grade allocation will not occur until there is certainty regarding staffing which may not occur until Week 7 of next term.
School Hall Plans
Following a meeting last week with the CE and the architect, I can advise that the project is going out to tender with a proposed handover of the hall site to the successful company occurring in Term 4 Week 10. It is expected the refurbishment project will take a minimum of 6 months.
Alcott House
Congratulations to the Alcott team members on their efforts throughout the term. Their efforts will be rewarded next term.
Last term 13 students entered their artworks into the Belconnen Arts - Our Town Exhibition. Well done to all the children who participated.
The exhibition of student artwork will be on display in front of Kmart at Marketplace Gungahlin from 1-27 October, so drop in and have a look. Thank you to Mrs Bernadette Matthew for coordinating this exciting lunchtime club activity.
