Principal's Message Term 2 Week 10 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have reached the end of a busy term that presented a range of challenges. With a commitment to provide a quality education, the teachers have worked really hard to provide a wide range of exciting learning experiences for the children. It is now time to recharge the energy levels to stay well and enjoy the holiday break.
- Miss Tully Byrnes, who will be taking up a teaching position at St Thomas Mores, Campbell.
- Mr Jason Smith has taken up a position as a senior school chemistry teacher at Merici College from the start of Term 3.
- Lauren Gould, our school counsellor, who is returning to her work with families with very young children. I am hoping we will hear news soon about a replacement. For now, all referrals are being sent to Marymead Catholic Care to be addressed next term.
- Mrs Lissy van der Sander (5 Ivory) has elected to take leave for the remained of the year. Miss Amy Balcombe and Mrs Caitlin Braddick will be sharing the class for the remainder of the year.
- Miss Heather Hall will return to work with Mrs Leanne Davison in Term 3 in 2 Lime. I am very grateful to Mrs Neha John, who stepped on to support the class while Heather was completing her final teaching prac.
- I am still to finalise the arrangements for 2 Jade, 4 Amethyst, and 6 Ink. Parents and children will be advised as soon as possible.
As part of the 2025–26 ACT Budget, the ACT Government has announced a $600,000 boost to the Equity Fund. This will enable an additional 1,000 eligible ACT students to receive financial assistance in the 2025 school year.
The Equity Fund is available to families of students enrolled in preschool to Year 12 in any ACT school—government or non-government—who are experiencing financial disadvantage. Support provided through the Fund assists with education-related expenses and aims to ensure that all children have an equal opportunity to fully participate in their learning.
Funding amounts for 2025 are as follows:
- $400 for preschool students
- $500 for primary school students
- $750 for high school and college students
In 2024 alone, the Fund has supported over 5,000 students across the ACT, distributing more than $3 million to families in need.
Further information, including application details, is available on the ACT Education Directorate website.
A reminder to families taking extended leave to contact the office to confirm the number of days and if you are required to complete the extended leave application. When granted, a certificate is issued by the Principal and must be carried with travel documents.
