Religious Education - Term 2 Week 8 - 2022
WHOLE SCHOOL FOCUS
The Whole school focus theme for this year is ‘Do small Things with Great Love’ and the Bible reference that supports our theme for Term 2 is Ephesians 5:8, in which St Paul says:
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.
Live as children of light,
For the effects of light are seen in complete goodness and right living and truth.”
FIRST EUCHARIST/RECONCILIATION
(children in Year 3 or older)
Week 9
- Information Session - Tuesday 21 June 1:00pm and 6:00pm at the Church
- Enrolment weekend - Saturday 25 June and Sunday 26 June
Focus Assembly
Thank you, Mrs Francis and I Coral, for presenting an amazing Focus Assembly on Creativity. They shared some beautiful drawings and insights on how they can be creative at Mother Teresa School. Their choice of song ‘God is Everywhere’,was spot on! They also shared the Creation Story. The first thing the Bible tells us is that God is a creator. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1)
YEAR 2 MASS
Thank you to our Year 2 teachers and students who celebrated a beautiful Mass on Tuesday 14th June. It was wonderful to hear their amazing singing and they participated in the various processions and responses reverently. The theme “Jesus is the Light of the World” supports our whole school Focus this term. Light permeates into every crack and crevice of our lives and beings, whether visible, physical regarding warmth, or symbolically enlightening us. Jesus is the Light of the world, our world, and in the world.
Have you ever had people come to your house for a meal? How did your family look after the visitors and make them feel welcome? Did you give them something to eat and drink?
The Story
This story tells us something about God's kingdom and also about how we are to work together with Jesus and with one another to bring about the kingdom. Jesus tells us we can't expect him to do everything. When Jesus and his disciples are surrounded by thousands of people, the disciples just want to send the people away. They don’t really want to put in any effort. But Jesus tells the disciples: 'You give them something to eat'. Jesus is telling the disciples that they have a role to play in bringing about the kingdom.
The Scriptures
A reading from the holy gospel according to Luke 9:11-17
Jesus welcomed the people. He spoke to them about God's kingdom and healed everyone who was sick.
Late in the afternoon the twelve apostles came to Jesus and said, "Send the crowd to the villages and farms around here. They need to find a place to stay and omething to eat. There is nothing in this place. It is like a desert!"
Jesus answered, "You give them something to eat."
But they replied, "We have only five small loaves of bread and two fish. If we are going to feed all these people, we will have to go and buy food." There were about five thousand men in the crowd.
Jesus said to his disciples, "Have the people sit in groups of fifty."
They did this, and all the people sat down. Jesus took the five loaves and the two fish. He looked up toward heaven and blessed the food. Then he broke the bread and fish and handed them to his disciples to give to the people. Everyone ate all they wanted. What was left over filled twelve baskets.
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Something to Think About
There is action in this story. It sounds a lot like the Eucharist that we celebrate together when we go to Mass at church. The disciples give their bread and their fish which Jesus blesses and breaks and gives back to the disciples to distribute. We are asked to give of ourselves too. How might you reach out to those who are hungry, or to those who need your friendship, or attention, or kindness?
