Principal's Message Term 3 Week 4 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
Please note the following staff arrangements and changes occurring around the school
- Mrs Danielle Cooper will be away for approximately another three weeks as she had to undergo surgery on her shoulder. Mrs Amanda Gainey will be taking the class from Monday to Thursday during this time. Fridays are still to be organised
- Miss Kate Higgins is currently on leave until the end of Week 5.
- Miss Carly Salmon has left for England to participate in the CommBank Paramatildas Women's Intercontinental Cup. Carly has been named Captain of the team. Carly will be away for the next two weeks. Wishing the team lots of success.
- Next Monday, we welcome Mr Lachlan Hennassy to the Year 4 teaching team. Lachlan is an experienced teacher who joins the staff as a permanent teaching member. I know we are all looking forward to his arrival, especially the children. A big thank you to Mrs Samantha Burgess and Mrs Ana Bristrow, who have been covering the class for the last few weeks.
- Mrs Ana Bristow has taken up a part-time temporary contract at Mother Teresa, to the end of the year, to provide much needed relief when staff are away.
- Congratulations to Mrs Kim Harris, who will be Acting Coordinator for the next 6 weeks while Mrs Penny Brown takes LSL. Ms Emily Niu will be taking the class while Penny is away
- I am delighted to advise that Mrs Ali O'Brien has taken up a permanent position on the Mother Teresa school staff. While sad to leave the work of the ELC, she has thoroughly enjoyed her time with the older Year 1 student.
- Unfortunately, I have not heard any news about the appointment of a new school counsellor.
- Next Friday will be Mrs Jess Binet's last day as she will be accessing maternity leave. We are still looking for a teacher to fill this teaching position
Principals Conference Cairns
Next week I will be attending the National Catholic Education Commission conference in Cairns. There is a group of twenty principals and CE staff attending this important conference to look at the development of Catholic Education in our local school. Please direct any concerns to Craig Hart while I am away from next Tuesday.
Boorowa Netball and Touch Carnival
This year we are currently only offering the students in Years 5 & 6 with the opportunity to attend this year’s carnival. This decision hasn’t been made lightly but is impacted by the number of available staff who have indicated they are available to attend this longer day to ensure we maintain the correct teacher/student ratio and the declining number of children in the lower grades taking up the offer of participation in recent gala day competitions. I know this will be disappointing news for some families.

Religious Education News - Lauren Maher
The word assumption means “to be taken up” or “to be received.” This feast honours our belief that, at the end of her earthly life, Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken body and soul into heaven. It is a celebration of her faithfulness to God, her closeness to Jesus and her part in His victory over death.
This feast is a sign of hope for all of us. It reminds us of God’s loving plan – that we, too, are called to live with Him in eternal life. It shows us God’s deep love and the special place He has prepared for each of us.
As part of our celebration, we thank Year 6 for leading the school in a beautiful prayer assembly to honour our Blessed Mother. Through their prayers, we were reminded that Mary’s life was fi lled with love, courage and trust in God – qualities we are all invited to follow. We encourage families to take a moment this weekend to pray together and give thanks for the gift of Mary in our lives.

This term, our school will be teaching Protective Behaviours to students using current resources from the Daniel Morcombe Curriculum and Education 2 Empower Publishing. We understand the content of Protective Behaviours can be confronting for some students, and we are therefore keen to ensure there is an opportunity for families to engage with the content before lessons are taught. To achieve this, an overview of the program is attached and weekly updates will be provided.
The Community Council has once again booked a photographer to capture those special memories.
The MTS Yearbook request for photos
The Mother Teresa School Yearbook has been confirmed for 2025, but this year, we are going to need your help to get it across the line.
Families that have been with us for a few years would know that each year, with the help of our school committee and dedicated parents and our amazing teachers, we have produced a 200 page, professionally printed yearbook featuring all classes and highlighting the momentous occasions and experiences throughout the year.
The Yearbook has always been wonderfully received in the school community and are great keepsakes for the children to reflect on their journey here. To help in that undertaking we are hoping for your assistance
We would specifically like to request any photos from the events that have occurred in term 1 while they are fresh on your memories
-swimming carnival
-Reconciliation
-Harmony day
- Excursions
If families have any photos or if you’re attending school events (sporting, social etc) and you take any photos we’d love for you to snap and send a few back to us to use in the yearbook (appropriate permissions will be sought).
If you can help us with the above, please reach out and contact the Yearbook team via the yearbook email MTSYearbook00@gmail.com
Kind regards
Lindsay Hackett
